I shoot skeet, trap, and sporting clays with my 16-gauge Citori White Lightning. Never have felt handicapped with it, and I reload shot weights of 3/4, 7/8, and 1 oz respectively for the three games. ...

I load 7/8 oz in the SG-16 wad and drop a 28-gauge overshot card on top of the shot. Flattens the crimp and has no effect on patterns that I can see. Much easier than stuffing a filler in the wad.

I think the silver colored bases are actually zinc coated steel. A magnet will tell. Winchester made a bunch of those at their own plant back in the 1990s after they dropped the compression formed h ...

My source tells me alliant does not make powders.

Alliant makes powders at their Radford, VA, plant. Some rifle powders are outsourced, but AFAIK all their shotgun powders are made in house.

My 2021 White Lightning came with a 1/2" thick Iside, which I replaced with a 1" Iside. Got it from Browning cheaper than Midwest.

A thin 28-gauge overshot card dropped on top of the shot before the crimp starter station will take care of your problem.

Alliant says 20/28 produces the same pressure as Unique by charge weight. It was formulated to be more dense because when Winchester went to HS hulls in the 28 gauge, they were shorter and the normal ...

Hmm. Now I wonder about my 1100 barrel. It's the right length at 21" and has rifle sights, but it's also marked MOD. It does have some choke, according to my crude measurements with a micromet ...

Activs had more volume than any other available hull. I use data for Federal hulls in the Activs. Even then the crimps are usually dished a bit.

I have been shooting 3/4 oz of shot using Clays powder. A 28 gauge fiber wad in the shot cup takes up the needed space using an SG-16 wad. Nice cloud of fiber feathers to commemorate a broken clay p ...

I bought a pair of Trulock skeet chokes after acquiring my 2021 White Lightning, as the three OEM chokes were F, M, and IC. They add a couple inches to the barrel. I can't say whether they're any be ...

My recipe:
Any straight wall hull
Appropriately sized primer
16 grains Clays
SG-16 with 1/2" 28-gauge fiber wad in shot cup
3/4 oz shot

Makes a nice cloud of "feathers" as well ...

Hodgdon has data for Longshot in the 16 gauge using 1 and 1-1/8 oz shot. Velocities are up there, but speed isn't always a bad thing.

I prefer to use the SG-16 wad for most of my loads, regardless of which hull. Ballistic Products has them back in stock, fortunately for me because I just used up the last of the case I bought years ...
