After a trip to Stuttgart and a weekend in the pin oaks at 12, I found a Stevens 20 ga single shot under the tree.

Have shot more doves the last 15 years with a 28ga. Ruger Red Label than everything else combined.
No doubt the 28 ga is the sweet spot of the red labels

Chamber pitting might have been a factor? Single trigger is rare in the 1620, but appropriate for a pistol grip, especially in an American market, imo.
