Problem solved. This gun prefers 1 1/8 oz loads. Works just dandy with those. lol

It doesn't seem to be a "five shell" gun, but that "three shell" spring I got is definitely not ...

What I meant is that I'm away from home for a week now and can't lay my hands on this gun and see how many shells it holds and measure some things until I get home again. lol

My dad used to have this issue with his Savage 775a in 16ga and he was told it was probably chambered for shorter shells. Years ago there was a guy back east somewhere (I think his name was Maynard) ...

hm... OK, all my 16 gauge shells are one oz of #6. I'll have to find some heavier ones and try again. My existing spring doesn't seem all worn out or bent. The new one just seems way too short.

I have a Savage 720 that won't eject, and one of the first things that was suggested was to make sure I had a good spring in there, so I ordered one from Numrich and it's a good inch shorter ...
