Nice, those prewar guns are the most sought after by collectors. The solid rib is a plus.
Sounds like you have a nice one. Please let us know how it handles.

Barkey,

I took a second look at the pictures, it has been restocked. It looks like a 40s gun that has a stock from the mid 70s.
I seriously doubt its a full choke gun. Like I said in the earlier ...

Yes, the 37s are built on different size receivers. That said, I agree regarding repair recommendations.

Another suggestion would be contact Les at Diamond gunsmithing or Frank at Sycamore Hills D ...

I looked at the GI pictures the gun appears to 1955 or earlier 37R. The barrel appears to have the solid rib. There are some other visual clues.that help date the gun. The helper lever pin the mag nut ...

Ted is correct 2 3/4 chambers are on all Model 37 regardless of gauge. Unless it is marked MAG on the gun.

Sounds like an issue with the shells not the gun.

The headspace issue as has been disc ...

gg,

Not trying to offend or start anything. Have you checked the weight on a BPS in 16ga? A 16 hunter model is 7 lbs 2 oz. The upland special is 6lbs 13oz.. 2 to 8 ounces. IMO this is a non issue.
