I think I'll switch to 2 1/2 inch shells. That sounds like the best option to me as I have 8#s of HS-6. I do use it in my late season pheasant loads in 12 ga but since I have so much I want to use it in 16 as well. I do generally use unique for 16ga though so that is always an option. Thanks for all your help. James |

I got the results back from Tom Armbrust.
23.0 gr Win 540/ HS-6
2 9/16 Cheddite Hull 16 ga
Cheddite 209 primer
SG-16 wad
1 oz 7 1/2 lead shot
8 pt fold crimp
Average pressure 6900 psi with EV 700 psi
Average velocity 1138 fps with EV 13 fps
Pretty happy with the results. I feel safe shooting this load through my Elsie featherweight. Not a very hot load but should do well on early season pheasants over points and quail. Now if we could only get some rain so we have some birds if it is not to late already.
PS I also had tested a fairly heavy 12 ga load with results below if anyone is interested.
37.0 gr win 540/ HS-6
12 ga 2 3/4 in ACTIV hull
ACTIV T-32 wad
Win 209 primer
1 1/4 oz #5 lead
Average pressure 8800 PSI w/ EV 1000 psi
Average Velocity 1411 fps w/ EV 43 fps
