16gg, It would be real hard for me to switch to a different powder even if is being made in Canada. Maybe RL 19?

Dennis,

R-19 is one great powder which has cut my 4831 usage to almost nothing. While Alliant markets the "Reloder" series of powders and are an American company; the "Reloder" series of powders are made in Sweden then packaged by Alliant........

Seems no one is kosher..........

I did not know that. However, some of the best rifle powders ever made come form Sweden. I used to reload a Swedish powder whose name brand eludes me now. It was #205. I could push a 30 cal. 165 grain spitzer boat tail to just over 3000 fps in a 30-06. Talk about hitting power out yonder with a standard rifle round. Who needs a magnum with this baby. This was long before the newer hi velocity powders. No flys on those Swedes when it comes to rifles and loads for them.

As for IMR- 4831 and the .280, you'd better believe it. For 150-168 grain bullets, there is none better. I like IMR-4895 for my 5x57 and 120 grain pills for deer. I use the Hornady 7MM single shot pistol bullet in a Ruger No.1A. It will get to 3000 fps and will single shot kill any whitetail that ever walked way out at to hell and gone. Sub MOA groups were standard. One through the lungs is all she wrote. Kind of like a light kicking .270 in a more compact package. My VA friends used to call me "Charlie One Step and his one bang rifle." Laughing

16gg,

The name before 205 was Norma.

I believe, but am not certain that the same Swedish company makes both powders (Norma and the one for Alliant).

You won't get any better powder than Scandinavian I agree with that!!! But my Norwegian blood probably makes me a little prejudicial!

I believe the company manufacturing the Reloder powders is Bofors.
