Has any one had any experiences with Rio shotgun shells?
The add claims 16ga 2 3/4, 1oz, 7 1/2, 1250 fps $6.92 Box of 25.

Do you think they would be OK to shoot in my 1937 Sterlingworth ?
Any ideas on the pressure of this Rio load?

Mike you should try the Kent 1oz at 1260fps, got my attention.The second shot from my Sterlingworth 16 bore on a quail at about 45 yards dropped him stone dead. I mean the second shot ever. I still have 23 of them green Kent 16s in the box.

Why lower pressure...as I understand it some double guns need extra care after 60-90 years as the wood gets old, brittle, and can crack under stress; not to mention shooting laminated or damascus barrels, which is another issue as well.

I get less felt recoil, effective patterns, and the fun of reloading as well in putting together LP shells in 2.75 and 2.5 inch lengths. A couple of LC's, a Wilkes, a Fox, and some scrappy old Knickerbockers all appreciate the consideration and bring down the birds if I'm performing adequately.

But, of course, to each his own....

Ditto....for the most part. I appreciate the fox, Smith, Parker, Sauer, W & C Scott, among others that are "experienced" in their careers and want to ensure they stay in good shape. Dont need high pressure to accomplish what I need to do on either clays or birds

My tested 16 ga. 2.5 and 2.75 LP loads are doing 1250+ with pressures averaging ca. 7,500, so I don't feel I'm giving up much.

Have a 12 load that that does 1300+ at 4,464 av. PSI, so no losses there either, though I'll admit I was very surprised at the low pressure. The 2.5 inch 12 does 1303 but is a bit hotter at nearly 8,600. It proved to be a good sea duck load.

These are all non-toxic loads as well which we have to use for everything I gun for these days. Expensive as the dickens but that's life.

$6.92 as a sale price? My, my, it wasn't that long ago when $3.99 was a regular internet sale price.

I always thought it was recoil that broke old stocks, not pressure. If pressure was the culprit, wouldn't the barrels also be showing problems?

One could possibly shoot low pressure heavy loads (1.25 oz.) that would do more damage to an old gun than a high pressure light load (.75 or .875 oz.) would, right?

That's true. a 1 1/8oz load moving at 1200fps at 8000psi has more recoil energy then a 3/4oz load moving at 1300fps at 11,000psi.
