I found an affordable double barrel on a link on this site but know nothing about the gun. From what research I have been able to do it looks to me that Hunter Arms were a part of L C Smith. Can anyone out there help a rookie with this, even if I do have a Lab (she is semi-retired but still a great bird dog IMO)???? It is very clean, built in 1940, price $495. Is it worth that?
Thanks,
Gary |

Congrats on the lab. We all know that the real hunters run labs(and maybe ugly dogs, maybe)
Far as the hunter, is it tight/on face? does it fit? do you like it?? If 2/3's of th answers are yes, then it's a bargain. oh yea, is it a 16??
BTW welcome aboard. Up front you need to know that Tjc, Fin, Twice the rev, and 16gg are all trouble. Stay way clear of them. |

Yeah, it's a 16. Sorry I forgot to mention that. All the answers are yes by the demensions on the link. This is a mail order deal but it looks beautiful in the pics. So I guess it is my birthday present. Thanks for the advice and thanks for the warning on potential "trouble". I'm in Iraq and have tough friends, just to be fair in case they start picking on me with both barrels right off the bat. I'll tell Lucky of your kind words, I talk to her on the phone (not more than once a week cuz da wife gets jealous).
As we say here, MANY TANKS!! |

Garry, many "tanks" for your service. You get back to the east coast and I'll treat to dinner and a good shoot.

Gary, ditto on the thanks for your service. Retired in 98 when they inactivated my Reserve unit; didn't miss it until after 9/11, but I'm not sure how much help an old COL would be. Stay safe!
Have owned a couple Hunter Fulton 16's. One of them was as good a long range pheasant gun as any double I've owned. (Not sure why I sold or traded it.) They were Hunter's economy boxlock, but they're solid guns, meant to be used. Price sounds reasonable for a 16 in decent shape. |

Gary,
Well, I posted a nice reply last night but it disappeared; must have hit delete instead of send in my scotch-induced stupor. I'd say grab the Fulton; really nice "economy" guns. I've been secretly looking for one in 20ga (don't tell these guys ) and my backside is still sore from kicking myself for missing a really nice one recently. Larry, will this gun have 2-3/4 chambers and reasonably shootable dimensions?
Good to have you here; don't be a stranger. And be careful over there!

Fin, it wasn't you hitting the deleat key.
Doug hasn't been given the update that now that rev's gone, your off double secrect probation(not that I ever knew why Rev put you there) So he deleated it.
Now, you best not mention 20ga's, seeing as your just off probation. Bud may look to have your posts locked.
Just stay on topic and you'll be ok
let the words "fin who" ring no more |

I am not sure my 'puuder skills are doing this right but I am going to try. Wife said the Fulton will make a great birthday present so I am delighted and thankful for all your information on it. Our Lab is delighted with all her new fans too.
Also, thanks for the kind words on our work over here. Things are really going quite well and I am proud to be a part of it.
Now, I need to send this and see if it goes to the forum or just to hoashooter. I will get this figured out.
A new question since you guys got me hooked on "shotgun porn". Any of you have experience with the De Haan Shotguns. I worked with lots of guys from Turkey over here and am curious if the workmanship on the guns are as good as he says. The guys from Turkey were great convoy drivers but that only requires detail work when the fanatics are going crazy . |

Both the CZ and De Haan-imported Huglus have a pretty good reputation.
Re the Fulton 16, it's almost certain to have short (2 9/16") chambers. Hunter Arms was one of the last companies to switch to 2 3/4" chambers on their 16's, not long before WWII. |

I've owned a Fulton Hunter in 16ga for a number of years. It's still my go-to gun for hunting Snowshoe hare. 8) |

Welcome. You may not have noticed but this thread is 15 years old. Makes no difference. Your Fulton is just as good now as it was in 2006.
I also have a Fulton.
Welcome to the family. |

Gentlemen,
Lots of sportsman own and hunt with the old box lock Hunter Arms double guns. Nothing wrong with them what so ever, and they have proven themselves in the field over many many years.
have fun with your Fulton
all the best,
