thought the following might bring a smile.....
I stopped by the local Academy Sports this afternoon to pickup some clay targets and shells for the sixteen gauge. Found a couple of boxes of Remington promo shells and two cases of clay targets.
Put all this in the buggy, thinking that for less than $30 I would be set up for some time at the skeet range. Anytime I can get out of a place like this for less $50, I count it as a successful day.
Proceed to the checkout and pile the stuff on the counter. The girl starts the checkout process and ask me how many targets are in the case. I show her marked clearly on the side of each box that there are 90 pcs in each case. This exchange should have been a flag.
She continues with the checkout process and I start writing out a check. I am sort of aware that she is keying in a lot of entries but it doesn't register.
She finishes and tells me the total comes to $935 and some few cents.
I say "excuse me?"
"Sir?"
"Lady, I'm not buying these for an investment, I'm gonna shoot 'um."
"Well Sir, $4.69 times 180 plus the shells comes to this total."
"Lady, they are $4.69/case, NOT each."
"Well, I don't know."
"If you don't know, we need to find somebody who does."
"I'll have to call the manager."
"Do what you have to do."
She calls the manger over and tells her that I'm contending that the $4.69 cost is for a case, not each. There is a looooong silence.
The manager looks at her and says, "they are $4.69/case.
I looked around to see if I had ended up in WalMart.....are there any REAL sporting goods stores left? |

I had sort the opposite experience in Wally World about 8 yrs ago.
Federal 22s on sale for 8.99 a brick. So I put a full case in the cart and proceeded to checkout. The cashier scanned the bar code on the case and 8.99 appeared on the screen.
I didn't feel qualified to argue with Walmart's computer.

JMT, that's too funny. And I can just hear her telling her friends about it later: "So he was all, like, they're not $4.69 each, they're $4.69 a case, and I'm all, like, yeah, whatever! And he was all, like, call the manager, and the manager was all, like, he's right, they are $4.69 a case, and I'm all, like, so I was supposed to know that? That place sucks, I'm gonna get another job!" And I hope she finds her true calling: Some place where she can ask "Do you, like, want fries with that?"

Just the opposite.
Several years back I was at K-Mart and they had AA's on sale for $3.99 a box. Some were the one ounce #8's in 20 gauge that I use for dove and quail, so I picked up a case. When I got to the check-out the full case wouldn't scan, so I had to open the case and let her scan one box. She rang up $3.99. Being a person of integrity, I told her that was for one box, not the whole case. She also had to call the manager. He came over (resplondent in his acne) and checked. He called back to Sporting Goods and asked how much a case of Winchester AA 20 gauges were. They told him $3.99. He looked at me and said: "Sir, these are only $3.99. Please don't be difficult."
I wasn't, I handed the cashier a $5 bill, took my change, my case of shells, said Thank You and left.
Who was I to argue with the representatives of an International business giant?

I was at a Wally World trying to buy posted signs. They had several loose, but I wanted 50 or so. They had a whole roll of 100 on the top shelf, so I took it to the cashier. After waiting for the 6 people in front of me with 2 carts each(the Express Lane was wrapped around the toy department), the cashier scanned it and it rang up $.39. I didn't argue that it was .39 for each of the 100. ''
At Bass Pro Shop, I asked for a price check on a box of 50 .41 Magnum 210 grain soft points. The guy said they were $9.99. I bought both boxes. Next time I was there they were $24.99.
At the same Bass Pro, I was buying a Winchester Model 70 in .300 WSM. Price on the tags was $579.99, if memory serves me right. Guy from the gun counter had to escort me to the cashier. Cashier scanned the tag and it rang up $179.99. Cashier asked if that was right. I tried to look disinterested. The gun guy said he thought it was more than that. I again tried to act non-chalant. He went back and got the price tag and it too scanned $179.99, but read $579.99. They called a manager, that finally straightened it out and I was charged the full $579.99. |
