Okay everybody,
I'm in the market for a single barrel 16. What should I buy? It needs to be lightweight and not have too much drop as some single barrels do. Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

Dito on the Win M 37. However, try and get a later model. The early ones had a very small hammer spur and could prove difficult to cock for some. Later version had a spur the size of a dime.

I would like to get a 16 single at some point and fix it up. Convert it to a straight grip, custom checkering, slim down the forend, the works. Most of them are so plain, but they are light, handle relatively well and would be fun to have for released birds or turkeys. |

Several months back Cabelas had a "Texas Ranger" 16ga for sale that I should have picked up. It was also marked "Wards" (Stevens-made, it was marked), and the barrel was over 30" long. Hard to tell how it balanced with the trigger lock on it, I figured if I had it removed to find out I'd have had to buy it. |

That might be a fun gun to work up. Can't beat the price. |

Was gonna say a Winny 37 but everyone else beat me to it! |

Beretta makes (or used to) a folding single in 16 GA. I have one in .410 that's a great starter for teaching, and I know where to find one in 16...

I'm happy with my NEF/H&R Pardner which I got at Walmart for $87 a couple years ago. Light enough to make me feel like a teenager again when I'm toting it.

Another choice (if you can find one) is an old Savage 220 A. Hammerless and top mounted tang safety. Here's my 20 gauge:
