Hello Folks
Have an individual is needing an extremely light load for childern.
Hull ejection is not an issue at this point
Who might have such a light load?
Thanks
Mike |

There is one under 6000 psi , for a 2 1/2" cheditte hull but with the DR- 16 wad it should load just fine in a 2 3/4" hull . You can also use a filler if you have to ( a cheerio ) LOL (skeetex that ones for you ) but they will work .
Cheditte hull , 15.3 gr International , ched 209, dr-16 wad 5700 psi , 1100 fps
should be a nice light load
Although pressure has nothing to do with recoil . Velocity and weight of shot .
There are also some 5/8 loads on the spread sheets
Hope that helps

I know it's heresy, but for the small kids that come through my hunter education class I have them shoot a re-stocked Savage M24 .410, loaded with 2 1/2" shells using slightly less than 1/2 oz shot. & 13 gr W296. |

Yes, understand, but these folks were GIVEN good 16 gauge guns
for their youth program and I want to help them turn out a generation
of 16 gauge lovers
Yeee Hawww
Mike Campbell, I like your load 5/8 ounce at 1200 fps
should not have much recoil.
Keep those loads coming
Mike |

I have been using 15.8 gr International, DR 16, W209, in cheddite and Win Cf hulls with 3/4 and7/8 oz loads in my O frame GH 16 Damascus and the recoil is mild.
I am also loading 15.8 20/28, DR16, w209 in RGL,s but haven't been able to shoot any yet.
Both loads yield approx. 1150 fps and pressures are around 6000. |

I also use that 7/8oz, 15.8gr International Clays, DR16, W209 load in cheddite hulls cut down to 2.5" for my Ithaca Flues. They are very nice loads and low on recoil. Might be just the ticket! Thanks for starting this thread, Mike.

I use an 7/8 RGL recipe but only load 3/4 ounce.
15.6 gr of International clays, DR 16 wad, Win 209
For 7/8 it is listed at 1200, so at 3/4 I suspect it is likely 1250 or so.
I shoot this 3/4 ounce load routine out of my Marlin 90 and very mild recoil. |

Since you put it that way, I don't know what the velocity is but for a hundred shots on a sporting clays course and no noticeable recoil (in a Win 21 that some of you folks think is way heavy- 6 lb 11 oz) I load new Win/Cheddite hull, W209, 16.6 Green Dot, DR16 with 7/8oz shot, but with a slight die adjustment it can be reduced to 3/4 oz. It can be shot holding the gun one-handed at arms length with no problem so I'd guess it would work for the younger shooters. |

I use that 5/8oz DR load Mike suggested w/#8.5 shot in a Citori and they work great with negligible recoil + burns very clean.
Good on you skeettx for planting those 16ga seeds but more so for introducing some kids to the shooting sports...
and of course kudos to spr310 for assembling and maintaining that library of load recipes, thank you! |
