I would use a faster powder--Unique or Universal---Blue Dot is really meant for mag loads Wink

blue dot at 9000psi off the website.
Have never reloaded Remingtons, (see, I can Spell, when its not late).
All my reloading WAS with GOOD RELIABLE SHELLS from Winchester, not the junk they're foisting now!!!

jroth:
i use U/C exclusively in all sub-bores except .410. 16ga rem's included as was mentioned by HOA.
you should be able to bring that pressure down 1,000-1,500. unique is very similar.
i would (and have) save the blue dot for your field loads Wink no sense in beating yourself up over clay targets

J, it would help if you would specify what shot weight you wish to load. I'm assuming from the reference to the SP-16, that you are looking for data for 1-1/8 ounce hunting loads in the Remington hull.

Call Alliant on their 1-800 number and request their latest free loading manual. The 1-1/8 ounce load they list in the Remington GL/SP hull with the SP-16 wad is a good one. you will be able to get all the velocity you can use at reasonable pressures in any modern 16 ga gun with 2-3/4" chambers.

There is also useful 1 ounce load data in Alliant's manual for use with the R16 as is or the SP-16 wad w/one 28 ga card wad in the cup under the shot. Just use the data for the WW16AA wad in a Remington hull and substitute either Remington wad as noted. The Remington wads generate a bit less pressure with identical powder and shot charges across the board and are safe for all the listed loads you will find there.

1 1/8th oz of shot and 26.5 Blue Dot.
works well low recoil, but bluedot a dirty powder.
You need to clean the barrel aft use

Just a suggestion....try using Hogdon Longshot in some of the reduced velocity loads. I have used in in both the Remington and older compression formed Winchester hulls with very good results. Felt recoil was very low, very clean burning. For some strange reason Longshot will pattern loads very nicely, I am by no means a crack clay target shooter and the first time I used the reduced velocity Longshot loads I broke 22 out of 25.
