Howdy the group,

I am trying to utilize the components that I have on hand, and have not been able to find an exact recipe. I have checked the LPG spread sheet, IMR book and on line, and BP 16ga book. The following is what I have come up with, and would like some advice as to whether it looks safe and reasonable.

16 gauge
- Federal purple hull
- Win W209 primer
- DP/IMR SR4756, 25 gr powder
- Rem SP16 Wad
- 1 oz #7.5 lead shot
- 6 pt fold crimp
- ~ 8000 psi
- ~ 1200 fps

Thanks in advance; any and all comments welcome.

HHH

I don't think it would be unsafe, with 4756 you will get very low pressures with 1 oz loads. My main concern would be poor performance from this load, using a slow burning powder and a mild primer in that light a load may not be your best bet. You will get slightly higher pressures and a bit more speed from that load if you switch to either the CCI 209M or Federal 209A primer, however I think it would be worth it to use the hotter primer to get the best performance from the load.
IMR listed this load in their manual-
Federal 16 ga hull
Federal 209A primer
25 grains IMR 4756
Win AA16 wad
1 oz shot
1240 fps @ 8400 psi
Since the Sp16 wad will produce about the same or less pressures than the AA16 I would suggest using the hotter primer.

I would use the Federal primer Wink Avalibilty and consistency ------I have had ignition problems with some CCI's in the past Evil or Very Mad

Howdy, and thanks for the responses.

My main problem around here is finding a store that has a selection of primers. Most of the time I just pick up whatever is available. Lately, that has been Win W209's.

There are some reloading stores about an hour away that may have some Federals, but the hassle of getting there through traffic and paying $3 a gallon for the diesel just doesn't make it worthwhile to take the trip.

I'll keep my eyes open for some different brands.

Happy trails,

HHH
