this question is directed toward all the browning gold shooters out there.
has anyone shot or bought the new browning silver hunter?
opinions anybody?
i have/do own citoris and bps's but never a browning gas auto-loader, and the same brother-in-law i talked out of buying a mossberg o/u now has his sights set on a "silver hunter".
i have heard stories of cracked receivers and ejectors/springs when using the monster 3 1/2 shells in the gold and sx2.
any responses good or bad are welcome before we go gun shopping next weekend.
thanks |

Broke firing pins were common on the early ones--the rest is b.s. |

My brother recently bought a Silver Hunter, 3" 12ga w/ 28" barrel. I helped him with the break in process and have been there each time he's shot it. Shoots straight, soft, and without failure to this point. It handles nice as well...the 28" barrel is a smooth swinger and the gun seems lighter than most of the Gold's I've handled. Its Winchester parts make it a little different to strip and clean than the Golds, though not tougher by any means. If he can get used to the look of its silver receiver than tell him to go for it.
As far as the Golds go, I've owned two and my only complaint was the +7lb. weight of the 20ga Gold Classic that I sold. My 3.5" Gold fires everything from the heaviest 3.5" goose and turkey loads to the lightest 2.75" Bass Pro promo loads. No cracked receiver and no problems whatsoever. Teamed with a light modified Briley X2 and some Kent Fasteel #3's it was murder on waterfowl last year. |

hey there,
My good duck and grouse hunting friend uses his SX2 Winchester with 3 1/2" super powerful, blow anything out of the sky, shells and has never had a problem. Sounds like BS to me, evryone is always saying that lightweight recievers will crack and blah, blah, blah. Never seen it myself and never known anyone that has ever had it happen.
