With deer season underway in New York, I hauled the dog and my early 1960's vintage 16 gauge 870 Wingmaster across the border to Pa. to hunt pheasants in the rain yesterday afternoon. Birds were in standing corn, but we managed to scratch down this rooster. Emma the Wonder Dog (anyway, I often wonder about her. Maybe she I should call her the "Wander" dog!) also pointed a woodcock, which I managed to miss. My excuses include long barrel, modified choke, heavy cover, anything but poor shooting.
Early '60's vintage 870; 2005 vintage dog; bird taken by late 1950's vintage hunter. |
