A year ago I acquired a bunch of 12 ga 3.5 in. Remington Wingmaster HD shells that Bass pro was selling out for very cheap. I bought a bunch and have reloaded it into 1 1/8oz 12 ga shells for duck hunting. Used a few this past year and they worked very nicely, good clean kills and a nice pattern with an IC choke.
Well, I have run out of 12ga components and have 60 oz of shot left. Now that I have a Citori that can shoot steel and the heavier stuff, I am wondering about making some 16 ga loads. On the spreadsheets there are a couple of recipes for Heavyshot. It has about the same density. I was looking at the 1 ox loads, the 1 1/8 are just too close to max pressure for me. The 1 oz loads will still have plenty of pellets.
I am hoping to get some ideas. Since this may be new I might have to make some up and have Tom test them.
Any ideas?? |

Wingmaster HD is 10% denser than lead. Wingmaster HD delivers a superb combination of energy and pattern density at long ranges. Deeper penetration beyond 40 yards than any comparable density material. round, smooth and true-sized pellets. Improved choke response.
What 12 gauge components do you need?
You need Gold Medal Hulls??

Do you have 16 gauge steel shot wads??

Right on both accounts Mike. I ran out of 12 ga gold metal hulls and no one has them in stock. So thought I should get some of the VP 80 wads at do some 16 ga loads for my Citori. Already have both Steel and Longshot powder. Since the loads I saw were for Hevishot, figured I should test them. Just looking for some advice. Have some steel wads that need a job?
And yes that was my thread on SGW |

I will check my stock of Federal Gold Medal hulls.
If I do have them will 100 be enough?
Here is a fella selling some on Gunbroker
I have bought from him before, no issues

Thanks Mike
Actually 40 would be plenty. when I said I had 60 oz of shot that includes some 3 inch 12 ga shells that I will not re-load if I stay 12 ga. So only need 35-40 hulls to finish the shot from the 3.5 inch shells.
If I decide to go 16 ga then I might cut those 3 inchers apart and use them for 16 ga.
I'll check out those links for the hulls. |

If Mike can't help you with 12ga Gold Medals, I have a bunch. I'd be glad to let you have 40. I'm in SW OH also and could meet you somewhere.

I have gotten feedback from the owner of Nice shot on SGW and it looks good for this June to have some shot available. So I am going to stick with Nice Shot for the 16 so I can grab either the Citori, older A5, or Marlin 90 and not worry about which box of shells to grab.
Thanks guys for helping out. |
