I recently received some photocopied literature from Remington (including owner's manual) for my 1958 11-48. One document says there should be a felt ring as part of the recoil reduction system, but another document doesn't mention it, and the hard-to-see illustration doesn't appear to picture it.
The recoil ring on my gun (attaches to the spring and slides over the mag tube), doesn't appear to have any place where a felt ring would have gone, and there are certainly no remants of felt left behind.
The 11-48 was produced from 1949-68, so my thought is that maybe the felt ring was dropped from the system by 1958.
Can anybody verify that or shed any other light on this issue? |
