Charlie, if you think you will gravitate back to the SxS one day, split the difference and take a look at the Merkel 1620. You'll get graded wood on the "E" or "EL" model, 28" barrels, 6lbs., etc. You have to handle one to appreciate it and a second hand one just may have loosened up enough to break it open like most other NIB brands; they are that tightly fitted.

Knowing what I know today, from a lot of input from the folks on this forum, money I put into other guns would have made such a purchase, though I really enjoy the guns bought in the learning process.

Reno

Amen to that Two Pipe. I was going to suggest the same thing. My Merkel 1620 is a SST w/ pistol grip model. The supposedly grade I wood on mine puts the so called higher grade wood on many other doubles and O/U's I've seen (and owned) in the shade. The gun balances and handles just fine too, even if it is a tad light for an all 'round 16 ga sporter IMO. It is a perfect light load upland gun IMO. None better at any price.

The Merkel is more gun (higher quality and better handling IMHO). Rizzinis are great guns, might be a bit heavier. I would look for a lower grade of either one if you wish to save money. Definitely buy the one that fits you best! I found some not so spendy Merkel o/u searching online.

Yes, it's a 12, but it weighs 6 1/4#. Keep looking for a Merkel.

Well somebodies got to stick up for Rizzini. Battista Rizzini, that is.

This is my Arum Light EL which weighs 6 pounds even, has fixed I/C and Mod chokes in its 28" barrels and shoots lights out in the game fields.

I can't say it's better or even equal to the Merkel 16's...I've never even shouldered one. All I know is I wouldn't trade it for a Merkel worth twice the price.

There's a fine gun dealer in Scottsdale, AZ that used to stock lots of B. Rizzini's...you could pick their brains via phone call if you desire expert info.
