Hi all, just wanted to pick your brains again here. If I used the below listed recipe, but used 1 1/8oz payload instead of the 1 oz what kind of pressure increase do I expect to get? The recipe came from a fellow on the DGBBS.
2 1/2" Cheddite(RST) hull
Cheddite or Winchester 209 primer
22 grains IMR PB powder
GU-1222 wad
1oz lead shot/6 fold crimp
1225 FPS@7200 PSI
Thanks so much!

I'll answer it this way. What do you think happens to the pressure when a resistance of 12.5% more load is applied.
Load it up and send it to Tom. I sure as hell wouldn't shoot it! |

I hope you are NOT just changing loads and shooting them. There is no way to know what will happen. you could loose a hand or your eyes or worse playing around like the change you described. Have the load Ideas tested before something bad happens. I have nearly no eye sight and am missing a finger because of a barrel obstruction and a broken lock spring. |

I had trouble with PB powder, migrated, a lot of powder slid past the wad, (I was using cheddites with the Federal Wad. Many bloopers, and have no idea how many that went off but were terrible, as I didn't kill many doves with them. Switched to the Cheap Winchester dove loads I had and immediately started dropping doves.
Similar experience with the 16ga cheddites with the sg 16 hull and PB. |

There are plenty of 1 1/8 oz. loads in a Federal GM that use over 24.0 grains of PB, so I don't think it will be over pressure.
But........there might be a wad change AND you don't know where the original load came from.
The proposed load isn't going to have you wearing the barrel as a necklace but, do the right thing and find some good data and the correct components. |
