to seat on the powder, just increase wad pressure till seated?
Having dickens on time with the new "HS" hull in both (EEK!) 12 & 20 ga.
Thanks. |

not sure what your problem is , but : Need to raise the shoulder adj on a mec , and I put just enough wad prssure to pop it - do not have any bulging doing it this way . Usually have to back off the final crimp a little also . |

Winchester HS hulls are actually a polyformed design w/ a plastic base wad insert instead of being a one piece compression formed hull. There is a small shoulder or step at the top of the insert (look inside the hull). WW wads have been redesigned to allow for the step and are specifically designated as HS wads.
WW AA, Claybuster, and other clone WW replacement wads designed for the original WW compression formed hulls may not easily seat in the HS hulls. So check your wads. The problem may lie there. Hope the info helps. |

Which wads are you using? In 20 ga I use Remington wads. They fit great, but are spendy. Claybusters and Dusters also work well. Some people have had success with the Downrange 20 ga wad, but I could not make it work-very inconsistent in my hands. The factory Winchester wad does NOT fit well with 7/8 oz of shot. Don't understand why they don't fix this. It does make a great, but expensive, 3/4 oz wad. The Claybuster 3/4 oz wad fits well. In the 12s the best wads for 1 and 1 1/8 oz loads are the Down Range because they are a bit shorter. Some of the Claybusters probably work, but I'm not sure which ones. For 7/8 oz in the 12s any 1 oz wad fits nicely. This is why I reload Remington hulls in 12 gauge. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jeff |

to use the CB114-12 wad in the "HS' hulls, as there is "lead-in" taper to start the wad pass the inner reinforcement.
Had a couls and BOY, they seated on powder and filled nicely with 1-1/8 oz., of #5 and CRIMPED nicely, No puckering or buckling of hull.
Going tomorrow to shop and get a full bag and use for any reloading the the crappy "HS" hulls.
Any original hulls, that I have left in stock, get the WAA12 and be done with them as they get used. |
