I just bought a new barrel for my '63 Sweetsixteen and not sure which choke
to use. The new barrel is made in Japan by Moroku and uses the Invector choke system. The Belgium Barrel is IC. I have chokes Full thru cylinder. I just
put in for a permit at Avon Park for the deer season and the military only allow
the use of shotguns - no centerfire. I will use No. 1 BUCK. Thanks

Skeet, IC or Mod, depending on what the gun likes
for #1 Buck

This may not be direct advice, but here goes;

The role of a shotgun is to break clays or put game in the pot. I say that you should get to pattern testing. Try to find the loosest choke with the fewest gaps that would allow clays/game to slip through at the range you normally engage those targets. Use the ammo you expect to use most.

Carlos -- YESSSS +1

Loads MUST be tested before hunting deer

Well, Carlos, I think you have very simply stated how to use chokes in a shotgun.

Very well said, and you didn't have to use four paragraphs to answer.

Try #1 buck out of the Belgian barrel, and change barrels if you need to change the chokes up. My Seal buddy always shot #1 buck through an 1100 mod barrel and aimed at the base of the head on the neck. The deer always went down and the better choices of meat didn't get shot up. If the post allows the use of slugs, consider that too.

swamppanther, Carlos gave you good advice , always best to pattern , especially
with buckshot . A 12 pellet #1 buck load is a great choice for the 16ga. My hand load of #1 buck patterns exceptionally well through a IM fixed choke barrel of my Belgium A5 . Modified would be a good place to start .

I hunted Avon for years, used to be a really great place to hunt, but I haven't been over there in years . I have a few friends that still hunt there and they've done pretty good the past couple seasons .

I have also hunted over in your neck of the woods quite a bit , on a couple of Lykes Brothers leases . Killed some nice bucks in that part of the state and lots of Turkeys ,and also more hogs than I like to remember .

Good luck!

whether reg shot or buckshot , you have to know your range capabilities . If you determine your best pattern will hold to say 35yds , then i'd become very familiar with my range finder . Of course , still hunting for instance , you can't be measureing , but by then I'd pretty much know what I can handle .

Start with the full and modified chokes with buckshot. Your goal is to put as many pellets from that load into a deer and open chokes just dont do that past 20 yards or so. The full or the modified should stetch your range to 35-40 yards but #1 buck runs out of gas very quickly after that. I would use a 12 gauge if I had the option and was limited to buckshot.
I speak from experience with buckshot as that is what we use here in Va. when we hunt deer with hounds. Remember what the other posters said about patterning, you should make sure whay your choke and load does out to the distances you will be shooting. Good luck.

to keep all #1 on a paper plate, start @ 25yds and move back.

When the group opens up that you can't keep 75% on the plate, that your max range.

Also consider using a front and rear sighting system or low power scope.

Good Luck and let us know your results!
