Cabelas in Columbus Ohio has flats of 16 ga Herters for $57.98. Had a few flats of #6s and a couple of flats of #8s around noon today (Sunday).

Cabelas is currently offering the $57.99 price on 16-gauge Herters flats AND free shipping if you order more than $99 worth of goods. Two flats will do it...

FREE SHIPPING EXPIRES TOMORROW!

Well, I missed the above price, but Cabelas is offering the same for $64.99 per flat with free shipping. Still better than not finding anything at any price local. Gil

How is the reloadability of the Herter hulls?

They seem to be pretty good. They reload with Cheddite data. I've been loading them with green dot and win primers with good results.

I loaded about 125 of the Herters with Cheditte primers and BPI wads for dove opener, never got a chance to pattern them, but the doves seemed to die reasonably often. Tried both 800x and Longshot from the BPI Cheditte manual.
They seemed to hold the crimp well, no splits after one firing.

I haven't gotten around to reloading them for a second time yet, curious to see how they hold up.

I like them in the Gran Lightning for Skeet. Loading 3/4 oz of 9s in a DR16, 16.6 Green Dot, and a WW 209 primer. That's probably close to 1200 fps which is plenty fast for skeet. Any faster than that the reloadability/life seems to go down. Have gotten anywhere from 2 to 7 firings per hull; most 4 or 5. The crimp will not set when they get more than 1 deep split.

I was glad to see the comparisons of the Herter's hulls to Cheddite's for reloading. Is there any published data, i.e. recipes, for them?

The Hodgdon site has data for cheddite hulls in 2.5 and 2.75.
The Ballistic Products manuals have loads in the 16 Gauge Manual as well as the Cheddite Manual for all gauges.
Plus you can probably find some archived loads in the Curmudgeon's Load of the week link from the Ballistics Products website.

Thanks for the reply. I also emailed Cabela's and they confirmed (same day) that the Herters 16 ga shells they sell are manufactured in Italy by Cheddite. Nuff said to use that Cheddite hull data.
