Eight years ago I began reloading all brass hulls. Tom Armbrust gave me several loads using C&F wads and our very own SPR10 provided me with several outstanding loads that used C&F wads. I patterned numerous loads using 1-piece plastic wads, none of which patterned as well as the card and fiber loads. By patterning I don't mean counting pellets or identifying chokes, but viewing the patterns at the distance that I shoot. I pattern test from about 20 yards to 45 yards. To those of you who enjoy patterning your loads, I suggest giving C&F wads a try. Anyone still use card and fiber wads? |

I do reload card and fiber now and then, but my issue is with leading up the bore. I have used some Mylar wraps but they kind of make anything but hunting loads a PITA.
I really like using the Alcan Air-Wedge wads with a fiber wad.
If I could get away from the bore leading.........any suggestions? |

Use non-toxic.
Yeah, leading the barrels certainly happens, but I don't worry about it until the end of the season. It doesn't seems to matter much and the birds still drop. |

A landowner friend of mine allows hunting on his property, but non-biodegradeable wads not allowed. So for hunting on his land I load nitro card and felt wads. As DC notes, they are not for those wanting high production and at the end of the year I need to use lead-out as part of the cleaning process; the patterns are more open compared to shot-cup wads; but it's all part of the process that I call fun.
I used to see biodegradeable one piece "plastic-like" wads advertised for 12 ga; but I haven't seen them in a few years so I suppose they didn't have sufficient shelf life or performance. |

To eliminate barrel leading you spray it with Boron Nitride. It is a High temp/pressure mold release /lubricant used in many industrial applications like casting Aluminum or setting injection molds. You can get it at Graingers. It aint cheap but a little goes a long way. Spray it on the shot not in the barrel. |

My pheasant loads contain #6 and #5 1/2 NP shot from BPI and I'm very happy with the patterns. |

How does this work for you? I use a 24g a wad in 28ga mag Tech cases but with chamber inserts in a 16ga gun. I always wonder how they would shoot out of my 28ga gun. |

The wad measures 14ga and just fits in the brass case. I use a fast powder for 1oz loads and a slow one for 1.125oz loads wool felt fillers to adjust the shot collum and a cup wad glued in with contact cement to close. they kill birds just fine and fit short chambers |

So no problem with the bigger wad going down a smaller bore? |
