About a year ago I paid $157 for mine, but I thought I got lucky. It was an online auction site that didn't get much traffic. I'd have had it for about $30 less, if some guy hadn't bid it up at the last minute. There's one in every crowd.

I'd say, depending on the year and condition, that up to $250 is fair for a plain barrel in good condition. That's assuming a little bit of a premium for being 16 ga.

I have been watching an 11-48 16 gage on Gunbroker since January (when I stumbled on it) with an opening bid of $375. It's a $200 gun and the seller must be content to keep listing the gun forever until he bags a sucker. I wouldn't go over the $175 to $200 range for an 11-48 since most of the ones I run into are in the 60 to 80% condition range.

CFT--Mabey here in the midwest they bring a little more????Not just at auctions but at personal sales, gun shops and the clubs??A 16 is still valued here and not looked upon as a freak of nature. Rolling Eyes

Hoa, you are probably right about regional difference in price. Run of the mill 16's sit on the used gun racks for a very long time at the shops I visit. And the fact that no one wants plain barreled fixed choke shotguns really kills the price. I have seen very nice 1950's Ithaca and Remington pumps sit for months on the used racks. Todays crop of newer shooters "must" have vent ribs and choke tubes. Lastly, wild quail have almost disappeared from most of Ky and rabbits are no where near previous populations and you have another factor depressing the price.

a local shop has a complete gun listed for $200 - were these made on 16 scale frames or are they built on 12ga frames?

I shoot a 1100 & 11-87 regularly so it would be somethnig I'm familiar with already...

they also have a model 12...

If you're an 11-48 fan, this is pretty cool:

Dongotto, I have an 11-48 in a .410, had it since 1966. has 25"barrel, vent rib, imp/cyl. Beautiful gun, but it has a lot of kick for what it is. I don't know whether you have ever shot one of these. If you are going to use it for hunting, you probably won't realize the recoil that much. For target shooting I think you will, so if it doesn't have a recoil pad on it, you will probably want to put one on it.
As far as price I paid $103.00 for it in the rod & gun club in Germany. . Now I've seen this same gun on a few auctions for up to $750.00, so I think that is a good price.
Be aware that this gun is recoil operated, by the barrel coming back into the action, not like an 1100-1187.
