I have a 1924 FN A5 2 1/2" I am looking to reload for. Do I need to reload a low pressure (<8500 psi) load for this gun? I currently load for a 1929 Remington model 11 which is a 2 3/4" gun. When choosing loads I generally will choose a load with less PSI over one with the same or similar published velocity, I am hoping to trim hulls and use components already on hand. Any and all information greatly appreciated. |

Hello! I too have a 1924 2 9/16" Auto-5. I trim the hulls to 65mm and load on my MEC 600 with a Short Kit. I don't think you have to worry about pressure--your gun is overbuilt in my opinion. The guys who load for low pressure are usually shooting older doubles.
There are lots of threads on this forum about loading short shells. Search for "Hartin Crimps". In addition, Skeetx has posted that Remington RGLs can be safely fired in 65mm chambers as the shells are 67mm long. I haven't tried it because I'd already cut down about a thousand hulls...
Have fun, and please post pictures!

No need to worry about low pressure . I try to keep recoil to a minimum to keep from loosening or worse yet , cracking stocks on the older A5s . I find the Remington Game load are not reliable in short chambered A5s . |

If it's a 12 gauge, 1903. If it's a 16, after WWII. But Browning did conversions of prewar guns and when they did, they re-stamped the chamber length. I've seen some that have been converted and the stamps are generally twice the size of the original. |
