Just wondering the group thoughts. I realized that in Alabama deer hunting is king and everything else is a distant last. Why would the state DNR not open Dove season when they can Sept 1 but put it off until 2 weeks later. Given the climate 2 of the 3 dove seasons we'v eparticipated in since moving back have been real skunkers because there's always a couple of cool fronts right before seasons open and the doves bug out. Where as from Sept 1 to about the 10th thereus usually 2 or 3 dozen in the front yard.
So why not open season on Sept 1 like everyone else. |

In PA and most other states the Game Comm. responds best to pressure from large organized groups. Thats why we have archery seasons that seem to last forever, because the bow hunters are the best organized group in the state. Also the duck hunters on Lake Erie get the seasons when they want them for the same reason. I'm not complaining about either case, just telling you how it works in the real world. If you want a change, get organized. |

aminga - we have the same issue here in Colorado, but the season needs to open about Aug 15. The two years that I lived here, we got a couple of fronts that pushed out most of the birds before Sept 1. Too often we hear the old saw, "you should have been here last week." |
