I shoot 2 1/2 D 2 F Goex 1 oz 7 1/2 in my 12 G Parker Lifter at Sporting Clays. Never found lubed wads to be of any advantage. BP rifle cartridges always use SPG lube and can get fairly long runs acceptable performance without wiping. Best accuracy in a rifle with Black wipe every shot no matter what lube you use.

Clays Routine that works for me is a small squirt bottle with half anti freeze half water. Small squirt every shot. Changing stations push a 1/4 blue paper shop towel through each barrel. I carry the gun open with a wood wiping rod, ball handle, dropped down one barrel. Bottle and patches in the shell pouch. You can shoot all day with a little water. Muzzle loading Minnie Ball rifle same way they need to be wiped.

You need some water and a patch every few shots for best performance.

I found out that BP fouling from shotguns is rough on the ol' chronograph. I wiped my Chrony down after each session, but did not try to get every nook and cranny clean. That was a mistake, as the fouling in the corners caused the paint to flake.

I've never had this problem with my .45 2.1" Sharps replica, but typically, it's 10 or 12 feet from the muzzle. The Chrony is only 5' from the muzzle of my 16. That seems to concentrate the fouling and spread it over all the upper surfaces of chronograph.

Basics of loading real Black Powder and the substitutes are the same, except the substitutes give lower velocities and are more corrosive.
