I've been reloading for rifle for a little while now, but recently picked up a used 16 gauge Sizemaster. Finding powders has been a problem, but I've located 700x, 800x, and SR4756. Will any of these work for loading 1 oz. of Nice Shot? I haven't collected any other components, other than some bulk Nice Shot #5 that I plan to use on ducks, and some #2 for geese. Can anyone direct me to some load data for any of these powders so I can see if I can find the other components? Thanks.

Charles

Hello Charles
Welcome on your first posting

https://uk.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/reloading16gauge/members/all

This can get you to the spreadsheets. They are now only in Excell format
You have to join the group and you can then download the excell files.

Welcome aboard, best of luck in your new hobby. If not already aware of component suppliers, Ballistic Products and Precision Reloading are two that I use with no complaints.

Regarding 4756 powder; no, wont work and absolutely the worst powder ever made and now discontinued, you need to box it up and ship it to me so I can dispose of it properly... Very Happy just kidding, IMO, great stuff and should work fine for what your intended use. Metered great, low volume, burned squeaky clean, I'd love to know why they discontinued it... Sad

Again welcome

Charles are you loading steel for geese? If so you will need a steel reloader, and you want to watch shooting steel in a choked barrel. I/C or MOD barrels only for steel.

I'm not shooting steel. I picked up the reloader in part so that I could start reloading with Nice Shot.

Ok. So I can find components to make 1oz. or 1 1/8 oz. loads of Nice Shot using either 4756 or 800x. Which powder would you recommend and why? Thanks!

I have used 4756 for 40 years and I like it. 800X has to be measured on a scale because it does not flow well through drop tubes. It is large flakes. I saw A vid of the owner of Hodgdon talking about rebranding IMR powders to the Hodgdon name, so IMR 4756 will be labeled Hodgdon 4756. very same powder.

Re SR4756:
It is my favorite 16 GA powder for 1 oz. and 1 1/8 oz loads. I have performed extensive pattern and penetration tests and couldn't be happier. They also perform well in sub 0 temps. The loads were recommended by Tom Armbrust after he performed pressure tests.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I'm going to pick up some 4756 today.
