I regret to inform everyone involved with the 16 Gauge Society that our founder and friend Doug Oliver (16ga.) passed away last Thursday, December 18, 2014. I am not aware of any details yet but his obituary has been posted in the Kansas City Star at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/kansascity/obituary.aspx?n=douglas-james-oliver&pid=173541962& There will be a "Celebration of Life" for Doug this Saturday, December 27th at Shadow Glen Country Club in Olathe, KS for anyone in the vicinity (see obituary).
He was a friend to many on this site which he started in 2004. I was lucky to have been able to call him a friend and to hunt with him in South Dakota a few years back when we did the short film for the 16 gauge society. He was fun loving, intelligent, creative and loved to hunt especially with the 16 gauge...Duh! We stayed in contact over the last few years discussing what we can do with the site, etc. and our fondness for what else...the 16 gauge shotgun.
For those who haven't seen it, there is a good article written about him and the 16 gauge society by Noe Roland at Shotgun Life at http://dailycaller.com/2014/03/31/doug-oliver-the-keeper-of-the-16-gauge-flame/
I have had conversations with both Skeetx and Nick Hammack about Doug's passing and will post additional information about his passing and the future of the 16 gauge society as I get it.
Give the man a toast and remember him and his family in your prayers for a good man has left us and has left a void where he once stood.

My condolences to his family. We owe him a lot, especially in the legacy of civility - particularly appropriate for the Gentleman's Gauge - he led us into.
May he rest in peace. |

Sorry to hear about this. Doug was a nice man. I sold him a Sweet Sixteen a few years ago and I hope he enjoyed using it. This web site will be a good memorial. |
