These http://www.officedepot.com/a/browse/ear-plugs/N=5+532283/ are my current favorites. (that price is for a box of 100 sets) I bought two sets (they come in little plastic boxes, even) at a gun show a couple years ago and I finally wore one of them out. They block out everything - all the noise from shooting. I wear them on the commuter bus (lets me sleep - "If I can hear you folks through these, you're too loud") and sometimes in the office when I need to concentrate.

I don't wear hearing protection while hunting, more out of concern I might not hear something than anything else. I wind up not shooting a lot, so it doesn't bother me. If I was going to hunt some preserves with a lot of shooting, I might consider it, even just putting earplugs in halfway would be better than nothing.

I have two sets of the Peltor's. One is the 'slim' set with dual volume controls and the other is a larger set with a single volume control for both sides. Both are great. The 'slims' fold up smaller.

I started wearing hearing protection in the field about five years ago. I got a pair of protectors for the range and found them comfortable and effective. I tried them in the field and see no reason not to wear them. I can adjust the volume to suit the situation. I like being able to amplify sound in certain situations. As an added benefit, in extremely cold weather, they keep my ears perfectly warm.
Once you lose your hearing it doesn't come back. Saving every little bit helps.

I use ESP digitals. I am using there most expensive version but they have worked well and I have not had an issue with wind noise. I have had the issue with other electronic protection but not these.
