Good day, I am new to the 16 club. Looking for some input from members who have experience with the flues.
I have a 1923 flues (16 of course) with 2 3/4 chambers. Assuming the gunsmith gives it the thumbs up on the soundness test, would it be advisable / reasonable / safe to use Winchester's (XU166) factory load. Which is a 1oz charge, 2 3/4 shell, with number 6 lead (1,165 FPS).
I would like to use this fall for the upcoming grouse / pheasant season.
Thanks in advance for your response(s). |

Welcome. You might consider the benefits of reloading. 3/4 oz., 7/8 oz., 1 oz. and 1 1/8 oz. low recoil and low pressure loads. |

Welcome to the 16 gauge world! This load should be safe to shoot in your gun. If you want to practice at clay targets a lot it might give a little more recoil than you want for 50 or more targets. Lighter loads can be bought from RST or Polywad. Of course, we can always help you roll your own. Enjoy your Flues.
Regards,
Jeff |

Bear in mind the fragility of 92 year-old wood, design less strong than the NID, coupled with the pressures and recoil of a 1 oz. factory modern shell. If it were my gun, I'd stick with low pressure loads and not more than 7/8 oz. of lead. OMMV. |

Gents thanks for the prompt responses. I'll take a look at RST and Polywad. Seems to be the right thing to do. |
