My normal solution for these problems is to drop a thin (business card thickness) 28-gauge overshot card on top of the shot at the precrimp station. Works as well as any of the others mentioned and seems easier to me.

I saw it skeetx, but I don't trust anyone who loads cheerios in their ammo w/o milk and sugar. It's just wrong. Laughing

Tried it. The wads are a tad chewy, and pellets get stuck to my fillings. Crying or Very sad

Since the post is directed at cheerios users, I'm not invited to respond; but since I don't take directions well, I'll put in my two cents. Instead of cheerios which seem to me to be subject to the disintegration that you describe, I use Styrofoam or whatever the material is called that is used for meat trays for packaging meat in a grocery store or doggie-boxes for leftovers from restaurants. I use a punch that cuts a half inch disc. Yield from one tray is several hundred discs. Depending on the wad, generally I can place the disc (or two) in the shot cup when putting the wad in the wad guide and there's very little extra effort. crimps work very well and don't breakdown.

My experience with using Styrofoam punched from a meat tray is that static will build up and the disc will "float" off the bottom of the wad cup when loading, such that it winds up in some random position in the shot, not under it and flat on the bottom. Heaven only knows what that will do to patterns.
My solution was to use a thin stylus to hold the Styrofoam disc in place, then pour the shot in by hand. When I had enough of that, I stopped using the Styrofoam.

Daveinmaine; Use a 5/8 inch punch and the styrofoam wad will stay in the bottom of the plastic wad by friction.

That's what I get for using an old piece of 45 ACP brass for a punch.

The best way to use Cheerios is with milk but no sugar for me. I use airsoft pellets to add volume to a shot column. A jar has 5000 in it Even if I use three in each load thats a lot of ammo over 1600 rounds. Very easy to use and no crushing,I have done under shot over shot doesnt seem to matter, the targets break just fine.
