Ah Ha. It was the Polywad Spred-R under a fold crimp after all. The performance depicted in your pattern photos is what we would expect. Thanks Mike.
In the case of a roll crimped shell or a brass shell, I would not expect a typical .020" paper "B" wad over the shot to open/degrade the pattern as much as the Spred-R device. I could be wrong -- no data yet.
I agree it seems obvious patterns can only be degraded by anything loaded over the shot. When it becomes a necessary evil to do it, I still wonder what the level of degradation is. JMHO, but it seems certain it depends on a few things, including the toughness and fit (diameter and concentricity) of whatever wad is placed over the shot. |
