They're running a sale on Herters 16 ga shells. It's on their website, the "Herters Select Field Dove and Quail"
79.99 the flat for 1 1/8 ounce loads, #7 1/2 shot, 1280 fps
59.99 the flat for 1 ounce loads, #6 & #8 shot, 1165 fps
You read that right.
It appears they added a pretty hot 1 1/8 ounce load to the so-far-successful 1 ounce 16 ga shells they have been selling for a year or so. |

I got excited when I picked up their weekend flier and saw 1 oz herters are on for $49.99 a case (limit 5) for 5 hours Saturday morning. I went to the store and asked if the deal applied to 16 ga too. Just 12 ga and 20 ga. |

The addition of 1.125 oz of 7.5 shot does not make sense to me. there are about 350 pellets in an ounce of 7.5 lead. there are about 100 LESS #6 shot in an ounce . A 1.125 ounce load of # 6 lead shot at 1280 fps makes much more sense to me. at that speed the 6's would have much better range. |

You have a point. OTOH, I like the idea that they are EXPANDING their product line of 16ga shells and not cutting it down.
Still, even though I prefer #6 and #4 shot for them, I've killed pheasants with similar 12 ga loads of 1 1/8 oz. #7 1/2. So "no harm, no foul", I guess. |
