Has anyone tried the Claybuster 7/8 ounce 16 gauge wads? I have been using the 1 ounce and like them--but these might work just as well for clays. |

Hal, I had some 7/8's I tried. I still had to use a filler. Then I thought I would try 1oz in the new wad. I had to use filler in that wad even for the 1 oz. Since I already have my 1oz loading fine I just stuck with the 1oz. I use a filler wad over the powder which fits in the bottom of the wad. I don't have any problem with powder migration. Bill |

I have only loaded them in CF Win. hulls and they worked great but I haven't loaded them in the Rem. hulls so can't help there. I've tweaked my settings a bit and can now load them with no fillers and still get a nice crimp; can't wait to get the to club and try them out. I will be using lots more 3/4 and 7/8 in my 16 in the future. |

The shot cups of WWAA 16 ga wads and the one ounce Claybuster clones are about the same depth as the 1-1/8 ounce Remington SP16 wad cups. The clone wads are longer over all, bigger in diameter by about .015 inch, and take up more hull space.
The new Claybuster 7/8 ounce wads appear to be about the same overall in all dimensions as the one ounce wads except for a bump of plastic in the base of the shotcup. I assume it's been molded in there as filler. If so, it appears to be an effective and smart solution on Claybuster's part.
As HOA said, the new 7/8 ounce Claybuster wads should be suitable 7/8 or also for one ounce loads in RGL hulls depending on the selected powder and volume of your powder charges. Tweaking your crimp die settings as needed will help.
The new 7/8 ounce Claybuster wads should also work well for fast, hard hitting one ounce express loads in Cheddite type hulls when using bulkier charges of slower burning powders. The regular Claybuster one ounce wads should be excellent for heavy 1-1/8 ounce field loads in the same hulls for the same reason. |
