For those interestedly: I emailed Browning about two weeks ago concerning the alleged 16ga A5 and received a response last night. The representative who responded to me said that the new A5 will be released in another gauge for 2016 but would not elaborate further, thus causing me to deduce that the "rumor" is indeed true; we shall see a modern 16ga auto loader in the next year or so. Whether it is done on a scaled frame is yet to be seen, but considering Browning's track record with 16ga guns I would be surprised and certainly disappointed if it were on a larger, less appropriate frame. |

On the Zander's link it shows the length as 47.25". Out of curiosity, I checked the 3" and 3.5"12 gauges. They are 47.63" with the same 26" bbl. I'm taking this as a hint the receiver is different. It is only .38" shorter though. Could this mean the 16 will share a receiver with a 3" 20ga?
If this is anything like the A-Bolt .284 I had to have 25 years ago, we won't actually see them until 2017.

The BPS and Citori 16's I have are both on a 20ga frame so it would make sense for Browning to go that route. I guess I'm surprise they didn't bring out a 20ga first but hey, I'm not going to look the gift horse in the mouth!
My hunch is that these guns would come available late next summer or fall but who knows... My hope is that since we are talking new gauge and not new model that these might be coming out sooner than later (at least I hope). |

As a point of reference, John Browning didn't just scale down the Auto-5 to produce the 16 gauge, he redesigned it. That's why part of the barrel extension is visible on a Browning 16 gauge gun, but not on a Remington. |

Catalog lists weight as 5 lbs 13 oz with 28" barrel, one ounce less with 26". |

That weight, if true, is sick (in a good way)! Hope you can buy recoil pads with it. |

Wow! I hope that weight is true! Perf ct carry gun as long as it isn't whippy, but I don't think it will be from the way the 12's are balanced. Just curious, SCGunNut, where did you find that weight? On Shotgun World, Randy Wakeman said this will be a 20ga with a 16ga barrel. Sounds sweet to me if this is all true! My Montefeltro 20 weighs just 5.5lbs and might be the sweetest shooting gun I have for bunnies (just limited with it today). |

Thank you so much for sharing, sir! Indeed this is an exciting prospect! Did Browning indicate any anticipated availability date? |

It will most likely be my next grouse gun. I only shoot 12 and 16 gauge shotguns. I keep thinking I should add a lighter 28 gauge for the ruffed grouse jungles. This one with the 28" barrel might be it. Who knows, but it's fun to get excited about something new once in a while. |

If I can squeeze a little bit more milk out of my cows I'll be up for one. Got a nice little A5 with the suicide safety that I shoot really well but don't like that safety one bit plus it ain't steel compatable.

I don't think I will be able to pass on one. And, if this is as successful as I think it will be, I see Browning bringing out a 20ga A-5. Lordy, I'm going to need a bigger safe!
