Looks like a winner to me, not that I care much for steel. |

Bpi has a few loads for them on load of the week, they call them csd wads.
Pr emailed me back upon a request for data 8 months ago stating they would put it on list to develop later this year. They have it on their website as well.
The eye test suggest they are slightly thicker than vp80. |

Are you sure the two wads are the same? I've not closely compared them, but the CSD listed on Ballistic Products is for a 7/8 load and no slits, and Precision Reloading is for 15/16 load with slits.
I contacted Prec. Reload. this AM, and they have no recipes for this wad. It is a low priority considering how many of us are shooting steel through our 16's? They were polite about the point, but nonetheless have their priorities. Since they have the recipes of the rounds they test, I prodded them about any recipes tested. Apparently, none yet.
I've been shooting Federal steel, and can't find another case of it. While there may be some in a store somewhere, no distributors have it. Thankfully, I've 150 rounds still, but it is time to start reloading steel rather than rely on poor supply.
I've not read the 5th Ed Lyman handbook, but there are only a few recipes in the 4th Ed. for the hulls I plan to use.
That being said, it would be much easier to have a recipe that has a wad to accommodate a 15/16 oz. load. When I was talking to Prec. Reload. my best option is to make a recipe and have it tested.
I'll take any input about a powder to use. Federal probably uses Alliant powder, but good luck finding it on the shelf. |

Michael,
Both bpi and pr reference b&p as the maker. B&p only sells 1 16ga steel shot wad (can be seen on their site).
http://www.baschieri-pellagri.com/en/borre/borre/steel/1/index.aspx
I'd assume 26/27 ferro would roughly be 15/16 oz. I have yet to see load data for either the CSD or the VP80 using 15/16 oz steel. The loads I see are either 3/4 oz or 7/8 oz.
According to the website information the CSD diameter is inbetween the straight wall wads and the remmy/CB wads. It might actually fit in the remmy cases. The length however is even longer than the VP80 so that might present a problem. |

Good looking wad but no data anywhere.
I still have a few hundred VP80 wads so will not be going along the b&P anytime soon as the cost of proofing in the Uk just keeps on going up and up |

I initially didn't look closely at the 2 wads. I noticed Prec. Reload. had slits cut, and was rated at 15/16 oz., while B.P.'s CSD wad had no slits and was rated at 7/8 ounce.
They look the same... My current Federal steel is a 15/16 oz. load. When shooting #4 steel, the difference in pellets between 7/8 and 15/16 is 14 pellets. That is if memory serves me right. Not an enormous number, but the load works in that size.
If I could have stayed at 15/16 oz, with similar ballistics... that would be nice.
I'm going to contact Prec. Reload. and possibly B&P if I still have questions about the capacity of this wad. |
