I have stepped up to this progressive press & thought I had data that would load shells without the use of OS cards. This load worked great on my Lee Load All, but is not working on the 366;
Cheddite hull , 7/8 oz #8 , DR16 wad , 25 gr. Longshot
crimp is dished. Not sure at this point if it is just a matter of tweaking the dies or if it is this load data.
Anyone have a load they are currently using on this press? |

In looking at your components I can see no reason for you to not have good looking crimps. On the Hornady can you regulate how deeply the wad is inserted? Placing the wad deep in the hull will make it dish. Can you post a pic of your reloads? That might help us help you.
Regards,

The wad should just sit on the powder does not need wad pressure with LS powder. |

The cf hulls have an inside that's tapered which also means less volume. Problem is now days nobody makes a quality hull like the cf hull. Cheddit is straight walled an handles much more volume. |

Needs a felt filler wad or another 1/8 oz of shot. 25 grains of LS and 1oz performs well. A bulkier flake powder like Unique, Green Dot or 700 X might be a better choice |

One or Two Cheerios under the shot will make a FINE crimp

I have both a 28 and .410 Hornady 366DL. I use the .410 model almost exclusively for my skeet loads. Based on my experience, Hornady powder bushings are notoriously inaccurate because they always throw excessively light powder charges--even lighter than designated charges w/ MEC bushings which also throw notoriously light.
If you don't have one already, I strongly suggest you get an accurate powder scale and use it to set up your 366DL w/ the right weight powder drops for your loads. Otherwise, you are guessing and will have to continuously put up with wimpy loads and poor ballistic results.
Here is a tip to aid you. You might find that the available selection of Hornady powder bushings will limit your ability to select some types of useful shot shell powders because of the gaps in what charge weights you can throw with them. Unused Hornady bushings can be machined out to accept MEC bushings which really helps to fill in the gaps in my experience. I had a friend machine out a couple of my unused Hornady bushings for this purpose. My solution works perfectly for me. Might for you. Good luck. |

Those are made of steel. Right. I read somewhere steel bushing will wear the bar prematurely, and recommend aluminum bushings only. |

I think the DR16 keeps collapsing because I added a felt filler in the shot cup and re-crimped and they look the same as before. Maybe I need to adjust the center of the crimp die up so it doesn't push the shot so much I would really like to find a good 7/8 oz load that works well in a progressive press without OSC or filler. I am going to mess with the depth and look through the all the load data again, thanks. |
