Hi guys!
I am in the market to purchase another 16, to befriend my existing two wonderguns. I currently own an amazing 11-48 with a full choke and a beauty of a Stevens 530a single trigger.
Whilst peruzing the stoeger catalog, I came across their 16 O/U and immediatly went down to my local gun store, a stocking stoeger dealer and plopped down a deposit.
The problem lies in the fact that while Stoeger shows these guns, now 5 stores I have been to cannot get one. Getting frustrated, but still persistant, I called Stoeger, only to have them tell me that the guns will not be available, and they do not knwo if or when they will produce a run of them...
So I've got my deposit back and I am on the hunt for another 16. i've found some really nice old Marlin O/U's but the price begets purchasing one when for that kind of money,[1k or better] I'd be on my way toward a better SxS.
So gentlemen for the range of say 5-800 clams, can I find a usuable 16 that will be at home in the field as well as on the range?
Any help is apprecaited.
Chris~ |

Should be able to pick up a nice Lefever Nito 16 in that price range. |

If you are looking for a new double barrel O/U or SxS similar to the Stoeger, take a look at the Remington Spartan line. They are probably a step down in price, as I paid under $500 for mine. Cannot speak about what difference in quality might exist. It is the Baikal (Russian) that has been imported bu several different companies.
I have an 16ga O/U that the dealer had no trouble finding, about 6 months ago. Seems to shoot well, takes a while to break in so it does not take two men and a strong boy to open. |

Since you already have a couple shotguns why rush, take your time and a good deal will come a long. I was looking for a 20ga. for my son and found a nice Sweet Sixteen for $500. |

thanks for the repilies so far!
In reference to the Spartan line;
I had a Baikal 20 SxS that shot nice, but the gun was as rough as they come.
I have been looking at this one...

as well as this Fox b:

and this one too...

This last one really intruiges me, and have written to the seller for more info.
What of my choices guys, since I am limited in O/Us and $$$$ |

Sure like the looks of the 'Bellmore' which my 1962 Gun Digest confirms was indeed a H&D Folsom/Crescent-Davis. Almost all were Belgium imports of variable quality. If something broke-it could be major $s for a gunsmith the hand make a part. But ANY old gun is a bit of risk.
The first listing is from our old friend Ed1-PM if you want more infro |

Just from the pic it looks like that Bellmore has a TON of drop at heel? The Noble, I assume, is Spanish? Others here who know Spanish guns can weigh in better than I, but what I've read says be careful about low-end Spanish guns. If the Model B has a splinter forend and vent rib, that puts it at about 1960-61; still early enough to have some reasonable quality about it. It'll be a solid gun, although it might be a bit heavy. I've got one just like it in 12ga; it's been a good gun.

I thought the same thing when I looked at it! Sure would be a high mount!!!!!
I am going to call my dealer tonight to see if he can get a price on the Dehaan. Retail price is good, but dealer is better!!!!!
Two weeks to a guided hunt in PA; [pheasants] I'll be using the 11-48 in the morning, and trying my hand with the Stevens in the afternoon.
Here's the Stevens:

In my humble opinion your Stevens is every bit the gun that Model B is; nice looking gun, too! If you want a another side-by I'd keep looking. Again, just my opinion.

Thanks Fin;
She dates to 1947, weighs about 6 pounds and swings like she's part of me. It's one of those "once in a while" shotguns for me...only shoot her sparingly, as I don't want her to break. doubt I'd find parts, even thru Numerich...
The 11-48 dates to 1952, and is in near-new condition. |

YDog,
I understand your feelings, and I respect them. But I'll almost guarantee you, you won't hurt that Stevens by shootin' her. Great old guns, and built to take all you can give her! Shoot her in good health...
