Anyone used the Herters 1 1/8 oz. #5 pheasant load on birds yet? |

I have used both the 1 1/8 oz 5s and 7 1/2s. They have significantly more recoil than the 1 oz loads as expected. I have been pleased with both loads but would not shoot them through my 100 yr old Elsie or Fox. I bought a full case of both for hunting loads as they seem to be a bargain to me (20 boxes to a case for those of us who are old enough to remember what a case of shells really is). I have shot a few bobwhites with the 7 1/2s which is definitely overkill.

The 9/8 oz 5s have done very , very well for me as a first barrel load for me this year , with Fiocchi Golden Pheasant as a second shot . Sadly , I must admit I had to go to a second shot a few times this year , but that was on me , not the shotgun shells |

I cut one open and the #5 shot measured .110 which is our #6. |
