just bought a 1929 Browning A-5 with the short chamber, and I have a bunch of Rem game load hulls with worn out crimps. I want to trim the hulls to fit for target shooting only. I will be using win primers, but need wad, powder and shot load suggestions. or is it not possible with these hulls? |

Are you going to roll crimp or fold crimp? You can load just about any 2 3/4 " load in the 2 1/2" hulls if you roll crimp. This depends on if the load fits with the wad used. Also you can reduce most 1 oz loads to 7/8 oz with no problem. |

I would like to use a 1 oz load, would I need to use a felt wad? |

I've loaded Short hulls with Fiber wads and over powder cards. Cardboard is cheaper than felt. OP card--two 1/2" Fiber cards-- OP card--Shot--OS card. Hardin Crimp and I can get 7/8 #8 in 65mm or 70mm length decently.
For using a wad, trimming the top off the pedals on a SP16 might work for 1oz load in a shorter shell with a full crimp. You can also buy brush wads. |

short rems - try the SP wad . Been doing that with 18.5 grns of Unique . That's how I use those wads up mostly . |

Mike - just shoot em that way . Works pretty well in the Feds also . Haven't seen / noticed any repercussions . (sometimes I will patiently trim some - not that patient anymore !) (I'd cheerio them if I had space to warrant) (I have about 15/20 boxes of factories of that persuation , so don't load that category often !)(the END) |
