The other member of my 16ga stable is this West German JP Sauer & Sohn combination gun (16ga over .30-30 Win) which some of you may have seen over at DGS. I believe its what's known as a Model 54. It has a Kersten crossbolt, flip-up rear sight and a set trigger for the rifle barrel. I intend (to try) to shoot a deer next fall with this bockbuschflinte.

At 6lbs, 13 oz, I plan on carrying it while pushing deer. Not sure yet if I'm going to load the top barrel with a slug or buckshot.
Buckshot patterns are centred at 25 yards but unrecognizable at 50 yards.
Winchester slugs grouped 6" high at 50 yards. Going to try Remingtons and Rottweils next.
The .30-30 barrel is dead-on at 50 yards. Haven't tried it at 100 yet. |

Is it a 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 chamber? Don't forget the Brenneke's. They're making them in 2 1/2 again and they're readily available now so if that's what the shotgun barrel is they're no problem. None of my drillings shot them, or any other slugs worth spit but, you never know till you try them. |

Great for turkey hunting when a Yote comes in but out of shotgun range. |

Its 2 3/4 and yes Brennekes will be among those going down the pipe.

I was thinking the same thing , as I live in an area where this is legal. Firearms regs are all over the map (literally) in Ontario, depending on which part of the Province you live in and what hunting seasons are open. |

Its been quite a while since I've posted, so I'll take the opportunity to describe what I've discovered about how this gun shoots...
The barrels are well-regulated, BUT are not regulated to the same point of impact. What I mean is that the shotgun shoots centred patterns when in shotgun mode (rear sight flipped down) and the rifle shoots bulls-eyes at 50 yards when the rear sight is flipped up.
But you can't for example expect a centred shotgun pattern with the rifle sights; the pattern will be decidedly high. If you try to shoot the rifle with just the bead and rib, your bullet will impact be low.
So alternating between the rifle and shotgun means flipping the rear sight up or down accordingly. |

I have recently become somewhat obsess with these German versatile guns. I love your BBF. I am jealous. I am looking high and low for a drilling in 16ga with a 6.5 or smaller under barrel for those stupid Ontario laws. |

tradexcanada often has combination O/Us with .222 rem or .25-35 WCF for rifle calibre.
My combi is a BRNO 304 with 7 x 57R over 12 ga. They were also made in 16ga. and .25-35 in all combinations. I also have a Valmet 12 ga over .222, but other than scoping and sighting (VERY accurate!) I haven't taken it to the woods |

The barrel is marked MOD and based on my unscientific patterning it appears to shoot as such. |
