It's possible that I'm simple minded, but I can't figure out how to get in touch with the owner of this gun. It's not a huge distance from me.

I don't believe that is a 1955. I think it's a 1965....
The ejection port on pre-1961 guns were cut square in the rear. This one is rounded in the front and rear. Also the finish is the 60's nitro cellulose lacquer. The switched to that post 1961.

Notwitstanding, that's a very nice Auto-5. And that's an extremely reasonable price.

Just giving my opinion on the date.

That's a great gun!

If I hadn't just bought one a couple weeks ago I'd snatch that sucker up in a heart beat. Great lookin' gun. Better finish condition than the one I bought and only about $100 more. Some one is going to be very happy. Hope it's you Beagleman.

Edit: Looks like that barrel is a Modified choke unless some one opened it up. Two stars on the barrel.

There is a dash there, just before the rest of the text on the barrel.

**- that's definitely an IC barrel. The - does look like just a hyphen or a space break in the barrel text, but it is part of the choke code.

That is a bird harvesting machine!

Thanks for the heads up steve f! I bought it pending us meeting. He also had a 1947 mod 12 16ga ,icyl in really nice condition. In my fevered condition, I got it too. My wife thinks its time for an intervention..... I'm working the investment and future value angle with her. As in she can sell them when I'm dead!

You're right; I didn't see the dash there.

No doubt. Best shotgun ever made by the hands of man in my opinion.

Glad to see you got it Beagle!

Dannypratt, the guy I'm buying it from said he dated the gun by the serial number. When I get my hands on it I will check it myself and will send the number to you for confirmation. The choke is what's most important to me not so much the date. But, if there were a hundred guys on here that knew something about sweet 16s, I would the least knowledgeable ranked at 100! All help truly appreciated!
Alan Hicks, thanks!

Got gun in hand- 5S. 44051. Doesn't the 5 S make this gun a 1965? Or am I confused?

You are correct sir. It is a 1965 indeed.
