I use styrofoam pellets. They don't crush to dust ala cheerios and are practically calorie free. Very Happy

Sorry, had my fill of rice cakes. Besides, I need the calories during hunting season.

Some guys get all nostalgic over the smell of red dot out of an old paper shell..now me, I LOVE the smell of a lightly toasted cheerio or two wafting out the end of a Browning Sweet Sixteen circa 1957....ahhh yes. I can smell it now.

just a general question for those on this thread....

are there any longshot loads that are a bit light on the shoulder for a longer shoot?

I have sg16, z16 wads. would like to stay at 1oz but could bump up to 1 1/8. cheddite hulls.

I see some pretty darn high velocity loads listed in BPI's 16 manual. but the 1oz loads require an OS card according to the manual, without anything there was clearly too much room between shot column and end of hull to crimp properly....

so my thought... could I use a cheerio for these loads also, and forego the overshot card? I was thinking like 26.5gr (or maybe lighter?) longshot, z-16 wad.

I'd just use the sg16 wad with 1oz that I've had success with, but there isn't a load for that combination with longshot listed. Anyone have a good source for a sg16 wad load with longshot in a cheddite hull/chedd primer?

msuiceman,

1. if you're asking a completely different question than the topic of the original thread, it's best to start a new thread with a title that describes your question, like "Need cheddite/ch209/sg16/LongShot/1oz load"

2. You mentioned BPI 16ga manual, that's the same as their Advantages info; You asked for something that's "lighter on the shoulder", then said 1oz or 1-1/8oz. However, BPI has 3 7/8 oz loads with the components you're asking for, you might try those, they'd be even lighter on the shoulder.

3. From the free Yahoo group (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE LOW PRESSURE GROUP DATA!) here's a load I found from someone named Hootch on this forum. I don't know if it's a tested load, but it has PSI and FPS info so I'd guess so:

Cheddite 1 oz. Longshot 26 Ched 209 BPI SG 16 1370 10,500 Hootch
16 gauge forum

From same source, looking at the SG16 wad with the Win Poly case, which is labeled "Use these loads for cheddite hulls also", which makes sense because the hulls are almost identical, there are about 15 loads that would work for you. None have the ch209 primer, but many do have Win209 with is similar, or F209A and CCI209M which are for sure hotter-- so a replacement with ch209 in those should be safe.
Much will depend on your personal comfort and knowledge in subbing a primer... I have spreadsheets with every load in the universe, and can quickly sort to see all data points and trends, so I'd feel safe personally. Also, the pressures are extremely low, 7000-9000, so you have a LOT of headroom. Also, you really don't need 1350fps for lead, so dropping the powder won't hurt your load likely. I'd be totally comfortable, based on the data below, using hootch's recipe above.

Win 16 Poly 1 oz. Longshot 25.3 CCI 209M BPI SG 16 1350 8,900 Hodgdon 2000
