Are the case mouths skived? To get a good center closure this is very important. I have had better success with 6 pt crimps but I like 8 pt crimps. For starting I would go with the 6. what loader are you using?

Byrdog, I converted a 600jr from 12ga to 16ga and added a short kit,I use a 16ga
grabber for normal reloading. I was debating to get either the super crimper for sale
by BP or the one I read about that you offer. I wanted to try with standard mec crimper
first. No, I do not think they have been skeved. I brought them from Graf's and son.

If you have a drill press I can show you how to make a skiver out of a wood boring spade bit. The skiving will make all the difference in the crimps.

Hi Glenn, I'm almost 100% positive that the hulls you bought ARE skived. I've never ran across any of the primed new Cheddite hulls offered by anyone that were not skived. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I'd call Grafs and see what they say.

As to the crimper, buy the one that byrdog has to offer. You'll be amazed on how well they work. The one I have is mounted on my press and it's not coming off.

Good Luck!

Greg

I stand corrected! I've bought them form BP and Precision Reloading and they are skived. First time I've seen un-skived ones for sale.

Thanks for the correction! Would not want to lead anyone astray.

Best!

Greg

Maybe, but if he bought 2 3/4 and trimmed and hem to 2.5 they are not skived.

B P and Precision Reloading sell 2.5" 16ga hulls that are skived they are $3.00 more per hundred than Grafs. I have used B P's skiver and I dont like the cut it makes. I have made innumerable prototypes the best I have found is made of a 1" spade bit cut to 22% inc angle then the sides ground to a sharp edge of 30% inc. The only safe way to use this is in a Drill Press. It does cut a clean even bevel in the shells edge.

I got a deal on 500 of these red hulls originally purchased at grafs, have not found an issue loading with a standard Mec crimper. Can't tell a difference to the green or blue hulls from BP.
