For those who have always wondered like myself. It can be done pretty easily. A friend who has been doing it welded a new crimp punch for me with extended threads. Other option is ordering a 12 ga since it has an additional 3-4 threads and then grind down the punch diameter to match a 16 ga.
Just food for thought if you should order a Mec 9000

I think he said it was 5/16-24. But the 1/2" head ground too small so you have to weld a larger head onto the rod and then grind it down. I think the 12 ga one for $8 will be really close to working. |

Ya when MEC made mine tha'ts all they did to convert it . The nice thing about it is if want to convert back to 2 3/4" all you have to do is change to crimp punch and make the adjustments. |

I would try a 5/16=24 flat socket head that would be long enough. amazon sells lots of types of hardware I found tis size there. |
