I recently sent my Husky 44 barnard Damascus barrels to Briley to have them re-choked from open/open to .013/.025, with permanent choke sleeves installed rather than removable tubes (it's an 1890's gun, and tubes just didn't seem right). I also had the bores lightly honed and polished to safe limits to remove pits, since wall thickness was still very good. What is interesting is that when I got them back, my hand held choke gauge still read cyl/cyl at the muzzle, but my wall thickness gauge showed the desired constriction in the last few inches of each tube of .013/.025.

Out of curiosity, I called Briley and found out that the reason for this is that my gun has very large bores, at about .690. This makes sense, since the original description when I bought it said it might be a 14 gauge. 16's fit fine in the chambers however, but aren't really tight either. I wonder if I do indeed have a 14 gauge on my hands, although I see no reference to Husky ever making one. I don't see a reference to Barnard Damascus or 31.5" long barrels being offered either however, so it must be a special one-off special order gun. Very interesting. I think I'll write Husqvarna to see if they have any info...

Try this site. I assume that "some strange letter is "@"

http://www.skydevaaben.com/contact/info.xml

You are probably right, It only lists 12 & 16 gauge.

Thank you Carlos, I'll drop them a line.

I just checked, and .690 is indeed the bore diameter for a 14ga. Uh oh. Confused

I would be curious if Researcher could shed any light on this also.

Think about RMC custom turned brass.

Consider 16 gauge MAGTECH with 14 gauge wads

Yes, I will. I'd like to know if they have any insight on the gun, or if any other 14ga's were made.

I think I'm going to do chamber casts and have RMC brass made for it.

Thanks Mike Very Happy

Most people in Sweden speak English (and write it too I suppose), but it would certainly be polite to send my letter in Swedish if I can. I've never been there, but would like to go sometime. I do have relatives there.

Kommer ditt brev att vara på svenska?. Wink

Google Translate doesn't work perfectly to odd, Scandinavian languages, particularly not for technical topics.

Do write in English, all Swedes under 65 have most likely learned English in school. Although their intonation might me funny, they can read and write it and they don't mind doing so. Smile

It's the same in Norway, my kids learn English from the first grade. Smile

Have you measured you chamber diameter??
Base diameter is .769 for the 14 gauge.
Bore diameter is .693.

Mike

Briley said that bore diameter is .690, which is nominal 14ga bore diameter from a chart I looked at. Haven't measured chambers yet (need a new battery for my micrometer), but 16 hulls are a little sloppy in the chamber, and after firing, leaves a minor dent in the brass, which I assume is from not being a tighter fit in the chamber. Makes sense to have RMC brass hulls made for it, which I'm saving up for now.
