Gil, great hunts, so far limits of doves (15) each day, but getting cooler and wetter, should send them South

About the screws, I like them as I get the guns MUCH cheaper Smile

Quality guns, one or two bad screws = great price.
And there is no degradation on performance.

There are NOT a lot of birds, and I limit most of my shots to one bird at a time so I do NOT loose any in the tall grass/weeds. I HATE loosing birds.

I usually will take a shot up to 40 yards or so, sometime 50 if I am shooting a larger gauge 12 or 16.

There have been very few flocks, mostly ones, twos or threes.
But I am patient and when not day dreaming or sleeping, I keep an eye out for the doves Smile

Since I have imposed a different gun each day, the first few doves have a better chance, But I have been shooting well this year even though my shoulders and the rest of my body have aged immensely.

Had to run the cat out of the boat, take the bride to the river, mow the yard,clean the fish, then finally got to slip down to the sunflower patch for the last hour of daylight. Nothing to right home about, but the kid got to pick up her first dove, and the bride had trout waiting on us. Not teal and doves, but I'm not complaining. Still wanna be like Mike, though!

Great account of a productive fin and feathers day, fish for sure. Judging from the chunkiness of the live and coloration of one of the cooked trout that these are tailwater and scud-fat fish.
Over the years of reading Mike's posts, I think it's fair to say that he is a helluva shot. You don't need many doves if you can hit everything you shoot at. However, like most great dove and skeet shots I know after a certain age, it becomes apparent that they traded something with the devil to be such a good shot. No, not their souls, but their ears. Wink

I do wear electronic hearing protection
and sometimes ear plugs AND muffs at the same time.

Also, I have a wonderful set of Blue Tooth Hearing Aids for non shooting use.

Lost much of my hearing in the military with aircraft engines, bombs and missile ops noise.

Opening day was a bust for us thanx to Hurricane Hermine. The 2nd Saturday was better. We didn't have a ton of birds, but enough to get in a bit of shooting. I carried my '55 vintage 870 16ga and managed to get 9. I'd only hunted with this gun once before so felt pretty good with coming only 3 birds shy of the limit.

It was hotter than heck yesterday. Too hot for big dogs. One hunter had to leave the field with his lab that was overheating. A buddy’s shaved English cocker was my hero finding some birds I couldn’t find in blackberry thickets. Glad I left my pooches home. I don’t expect northerns until the cold weather hits. The sunflower/corn field we shot yesterday was in Georgia and the season is out Sunday until October 8. Lots of birds left. 20 guns in the field and 18 limits. Gil
