I noticed a box of Rem. 16's that caught my eye recently: Express Long Range XLR. The box touts "reloadable hull". Same old junk they have been making in recent years or did they actually improve the plastic? |

I suspect it's the same green 16 ga express hull w/ a plastic base wad and a taller brass washed steel base they've been marketing since the mid-1980s. It's pretty much the same hull as the black RGL hull except it's even harder to resize.
The plastic hull bodies of the older lots of RGL and Express hulls were tougher and could be reloaded about 3 to 4 times (rarely 5) before the hull mouths split. If these new XLR hulls are pretty much like the newer RGL hulls, then the only change probably has been the printing on the box. Reloadable yes. Reliable no. |
