I found a 16ga side by side with 30 inch barrels for sale for $500.00. It is very used but also in excellent condition. It looks to have false side plates. The only marking is R 4 and P.T.C.A. Anybody know anything about PTCA? Thanks |

It had no no proof marks, no choke marking, no maker, and no import marking. T barrel was marked 16 Gauge. The lug connecting the barrel to the receiver had the serial #, "P.T.C.A. and R 4. The receiver also had the serial number. That is it for marking. I have never seen a gun with less info. |

The serial number is on the flats and inside the fore arm. It is similar to the one in this GB sale except the one I found has a round knob with no end cap on the grip.
I have no pics but found this for show and ask:

Its a handsome gun with vibrant case colors. |

I don't think those are false side plates as they have pins and screws in them. I think this gun is a genuine side lock. If so, beware of cracks in the thin parts of the stock. |

The gun is a "trade branded" Crescent from the later 1930s after Crescent-Davis Arms Corp. had failed and the remains were moved to the J. Stevens Arms Co. factory at Chicopee Falls, Mass. Never saw England or Europe, unless some GI took it there long after it was made. |

Somebody did a resto on it. The checkering was sharp, the case coloring was very loud, and the stock looked too clean.
I passed on it. It's at Cabelas in Billings MT if anybody has to have it.
Thanks for the info. |
